Apple crumble
“Quick ways with apples.”
Ingredients
  • 6 apples (peeled and thickly sliced)
  • ¾ cup water,
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup self-raising flour
  • 100g chopped butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • ¼ cup chopped almonds

A simple and classic favourite.

Method

Preheat oven to 180C.

Combine apples (peeled and thickly sliced), water,  sugar and 4 cloves in a saucepan over low heat. Cook until apples are tender. Discard cloves, add 1 tsp vanilla extract and spoon mixture into a shallow, lightly greased ovenproof dish. Place self-raising flour in a bowl, then rub in chopped butter until well combined. Add brown sugar, desiccated coconut and chopped almonds and mix well. Spoon crumble mixture over apples and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until crumble is golden.

Serve with vanilla ice-cream.
